The second vital reason for the cheap price of generic drug is competition, once they are approved; there is greater competition, which keeps the price down. Today, almost half of all prescriptions are filled with generic drugs. </p> Do generic drugs meet the standards of the branded drugs according to the FDA? <p>Yes, both brand-name and generic drug manufacturers facilitate similar standards, in fact the FDA does not permits drugs to be manufactured in imperfect conditions. Around 3,500 inspections a year are conducted by the FDA to ensure the demanded standards. Generic firms have facilities comparable to those of brand-name firms. In fact 50% of the brand-name firms are linked generic drug production. They frequently make copies of their own or other brand-name drugs but sell them without the brand name. </p> <p>Conclusion: generic drugs can not look like the brand name drugs because they are banned by the U.S trademark laws.
