This epic and multi award-winning play, adapted from the celebrated novel by Michael Morpurgo has moved to the New London Theatre after playing two highly successful seasons at the National Theatre in London. The actors are working with extraordinary life-sized puppets by the Handspring Puppet Company.
War Horse is the story of the young boy Albert and his beloved horse, a tale of friendship, loyalty and bravery. World War I just began and Albert's beloved horse Joey is sold to the military and shipped to France. Joey goes on the battlefield for both sides before finding him all alone. The boy cannot forget his companion and far too young to enlist goes on the quest to find his horse.
This play is a real must see, here are just some of the raving reviews:
'So exhilarating it makes you rejoice to be alive. Its sheer skill and invention are awe-inspiring.' The Times
'An extraordinary piece of theatre which is both epic and intimate. Guaranteed to move the heart.' Sunday Express
'War Horse only confirms the National's extraordinary knack of turning children's literature into the finest drama. Stunning.’ Sunday Times
Those reviews may have enticed Queen Elisabeth II to an incognito trip to the West End. The Queen took informality to a new level when she, accompanied by Prince Philip, attended a performance of War Horse. Just when the lights had dimmed and the curtain went up, the Royals apologetically asked people to let them past on their way through to their seats and discreetly sat down right amongst the audience - to the huge astonishment of the audience who could not believe their eyes.
