At Last A Blog for Article Content King
February 11, 2009 by Dan Blackburn
For the last 6 months or so I have been working hard with a small group of people to improve the article directory article-content-king.com. The improvements we have made so far have greatly increased both traffic to the site, and more importantly, the quality of content displayed on the site.
Perhaps adding a blog to raise the profile of the site should have been one of the first things we did, but nevertheless, it is here now and this is the first post. I want to use it to talk about some of the cool new features we have added, how they work and they could benefit you.
Clearing The Past
It’s time to come clean, for the first 3 years that Article Content King was online, I did not pay a deal of attention to it and it showed. The site provided little value to the visitor because the articles went largely unmoderated and many were of poor quality. It was hit and miss for the visitor whetheter they landed on an article that was worth reading, or an article that was just pure junk. Needless to say, not many people who found the site spent a deal of time browsing it for quality articles. No-one was subscribing to our RSS feeds and no-one really cared about the site. There is no wonder it wasn’t very profitable.
When it really comes down to it, it’s all about providing value for the visitor, without this, there is no value to the article author or site owner.
Perhaps the most important thing we have done to improve the site is introduce a community moderation system. Without this, none of the other improvements would be worth much because without quality content that is of real value to the reader, no amount of trying is going to get people to want to stay and read articles on the site and look at Article Content King as a place to check for content to publish.
The community moderation system has greatly improved things already, but the system is still in it’s infancy.
Here is how the community moderation system works.
After being checked for compliance with basic terms and conditions, an article is passed to the community for moderation. Each article submitted must be rated by at least 3 different members before it appears live on the site. Each member gives the article a score between 1 and 10 with anything below a 3 being a rejection score.
- If an article is rejected it is passed back to the author with comments on how to improve it.
- It an article is approved it goes live on the site with a total score equal to the sum of the votes received in moderation.
Once live on the site, the article score is clearly displayed in the article content. Visitors can vote articles up or down by clicking the appropriate “thumb” image next to the article score. Articles with the highest scores are displayed the highest on the site in their appropriate category.
Visitors can now help clear the old unmoderated content from the site by voting it with a “thumbs down”. If any article on the site receives a score of -2 it is removed from the site and placed back in the moderation queue.
The improved quality of content on the site is already attracting more traffic and higher revenue from ads displayed on the site. Which at the end of the day, is how article directories make money.
Now you can make money from your articles
Probably the most EXCITING improvement we have made to the site is introduce a revenue sharing business model and affiliate program. Many sites share the revenue with their authors but none of them take it to quite the extreme that we have.
Here’s how our revenue sharing model works…
Every time one of your articles is viewed on the site by a 24 hour unique visitor, you earn a credit. So for example, if you had 100 articles published on the site, and each one gets an average of just 100 veiws, your articles would generate 100 x 100 = 10,000 credits
When you have 1000 credits, you can choose to either
- Use them to display your own ads on the site in targeted categories
- Sell them back to us for cash
This gives you the real value of the income generated from the articles you submitted. You are paid in direct proportion to the value your content and traffic brings to the site.
But it does not stop there.
You earn you when your own articles are viewed on the site, and you earn credits you when your referrals articles are viewed on the site too. Down 10 levels of referals… and best of all, the affiliate program is automatically promoted for you though the articles that you submit.
Yeah! I know it sounds to good to be true doesn’t it? But here is how.
At the bottom of every article you submit is a link to “Article Source”. This link is your article content king affiliate link. What this means is, if anyone publishes on of your articles on their site or blog, your affiliate link is published along with it. If anyone signs up though that link, you start earning credits when their articles are viewed on the site. This continues down 10 levels of referrals.
I recognize that often times the only reason why someone is submitting articles in the first place is because someone else referred them. That person deserves the credit, this system gives it to them.
Members can also earn credits by moderating articles in the queue.
If you have any comments I would love to hear your views
Thanks

Having improved the quality of the content of Article Content King, now is the perfect time to add a blog.
As a team, we’ve already proved how quickly blogs can get content indexed by Google.
If we’d added the blog earlier, it would have raised the profile of the site as it was before – not as it is now.
You know, you’re right Phil.
